Jacques Tynes is a criminal defence lawyer based in Toronto, Ontario. Called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2020 and the Ontario Bar in 2025, she has represented clients in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and Ontario. Ms. Tynes has developed a reputation for tenacious advocacy, meticulous preparation, and strategic litigation.
A graduate of the Schulich School of Law, Ms. Tynes was the most decorated member of the 2019 graduating class and placed in the top 10 in Canada at the Gale Cup National Moot. She was accepted into the Master of Laws program at Dalhousie University, where she has focused her studies on constitutional law.
Ms. Tynes began her career in criminal defence, articling under respected Nova Scotia defence counsel and worked for the Provincial Prosecution Services of Nova Scotia assisting on many criminal matters. Ms. Tynes has appeared before the Provincial Court, Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. She later built on that foundation through work in youth, civil, and criminal litigation, including overturning Mareva injunctions, defending Small Claims Court matters, securing bail for clients, and representing individuals facing impaired driving, homicide, drug trafficking and sexual assault allegations.
