Chi-Kun Shi is a sole practice lawyer in civil litigation. Chi-Kun was called to the Bar in 1991. She currently serves as a Bencher at the Law Society of Ontario. Before entering the legal profession, Chi-Kun was an aerospace engineer. She received her Bachelor and Master of Applied Science and Engineering from the University of Toronto. After graduation, she worked at Spar Aerospace on the Canadarm project for the Space Shuttle, and at Ontario Hydro designing computer system for rapid response to nuclear accidents in Ontario. Upon graduation from University of Toronto Faculty of Law, Chi-Kun worked in Bay Street on large scale patent litigation. After starting her sole practice, Chi-Kun served clients in areas of estates, shareholders’ disputes, commercial contract, wrongful dismissal, defamation, bankruptcy, labour disputes, administrative law, professional negligence and consumer complaints. She has served as mediator in legal disputes since 1999. In her volunteer work she serves as screener for the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto in its evaluation of applications for admission to its undergraduate program, counsel to Toronto Association for Learning and Preserving the History of WWII in Asia (“Toronto ALPHA”), and guest commentator on legal and current affairs in Chinese language for OMNI-TV. She has served pro bono as spokesperson to Mr. David Chen and Lucky Moose Food Mart to seek amendments to s. 494(2) of the Criminal Code, the so-called Citizen’s Arrest Law, and legal counsel to family of a schizophrenic whom killed his wife and children, seeking law reform at Ontario Legislature to address the safety for families of mental health patients.
