Patrick is a Partner at the law firm James Lawyers and practices in the following areas: civil and commercial litigation; administrative and regulatory law; workplace law; and municipal and planning law. In addition, Patrick possesses extensive experience advising clients on all matters relating to government and governance. Patrick earns the trust and confidence of his clients, and is dedicated to resolving their problems and achieving their goals in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Patrick is a former member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Executive, the Ontario Bar Association’s Council, and the Ontario Bar Association’s Public Affairs Committee. Patrick also served on the Ontario Bar Association’s Wrongful Dismissal Task Force and is a former Chair of the Editorial Board of JUST Magazine, the official publication of the Ontario Bar Association, which is circulated to over 18,000 lawyers and judges in Ontario.
Patrick has extensive experience speaking at various continuing legal education conferences and seminars hosted by Osgoode Hall Law School, the University of Toronto, the Ontario Bar Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada on topics relating to civil litigation; administrative law; labour and employment law; legal practice management; and human rights. Patrick is also Visiting Faculty at Notre Dame University Law School where he assists with the Intensive Trial Advocacy course.
Prior to joining James Lawyers, Mr. James served for several years as a Senior Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, the Minister of National Defence, the Minister of Veterans Affairs, and the Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Trade. In these various roles, Mr. James was tasked with providing legal, political and strategic advice to Federal and Provincial Cabinet Ministers, and was responsible for acting as a liaison with the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada, the Office of the Premier of Ontario, the Privy Council Office, Cabinet Office, Federal Members of Parliament, Members of Provincial Parliament, and countless Federal, Provincial, and Foreign ministries. In these roles, Patrick also acted as a political liaison between the Government of Canada and multilateral organizations such as NATO, the United Nations, and the OECD.
Prior to his legal career, Patrick worked at a leading management-side human resources consulting firm. He holds a BA from the University of Toronto and an LLB from the University of Ottawa.
