Verlyn is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1997. She is a lawyer, Certified Mediator and Certified Adjudicator. She is expected to receive her LL.M. in ADR from Osgoode in 2015.

Verlyn is a Mediator, Arbitrator and Adjudicator of Civil disputes including Family, Estates and Trusts.
Verlyn is a member of ADR Institute of Canada, the Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators. She is also a member of the Ontario Bar Association and Toronto Lawyers Association, Women’s Law Association of Ontario), and Canadian Association of Black Lawyers). She has served on the Boards of Toronto Board of Trade, Toronto Community Foundation. She is past Chair of the Harry Jerome Scholarship Fund, founding Chair of the Gold Key Awards of Osgoode Hall Law School Alumni Association. She currently sits of the Board of the Ontario Arts Council and is Chair of the Governance Committee. She has spoken on topics related to family and estate law at events sponsored by legal groups and the community.
